During all this shelter at home time, many things have become available to us online, across geographic boundaries.

1) Available whenever you like, here are Klezmer podcasts:  https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/radiant-others-a-klezmer-music-podcast/id1270478912    Internationally renowned klezmer trombonist Dan Blacksberg sits down for in-depth and informal conversations with musicians and other artists whose work has made them an integral part of the klezmer world. Listeners get to go behind the scenes of the lives and work of the individual artists, and the modern history of klezmer music. We'll talk about memorable moments in our artistic development, bring up wild performance stories, and ruminate what it's like to be connected to this international community that makes up the klezmer world.

2) KlezCalifornia is a fabulous resource. They are offering their almost weekly workshops online. They have wonderful resources of sheet music, recordings and instrument-specific tips. www.klezCalifornia.org

There is a plethora of offerings on Facebook, including Mark Kovnatskiy from Russia who takes requests interactively and plays two klezmer tunes each day. Another is the Facebook group Beregovsky Online Forum where you can find lots of video and recordings. Further delighting our ears is a Klezmer Fiddle Project, “A Nign a Day”, hosted by Klezmer Fidl - the Global Community for bowed string players. Searching for klezmer yields so much! Klezmer Arts Institute Los Angeles is doing weekly jams on Sundays, and occasional klezmer song workshops. I encourage you to explore groups on Facebook such as “Klezmer !”, Klezmer, DC Klezmer Workshop. Many klezmer musicians have individual pages and post frequently.

3) KAILA klezmer workshops: If you have ever been to a Jewish wedding or bar/bas Mitzveh party and wished you could play the traditional Eastern European Jewish Music known as klezmer, then KAILA is for you! KAILA is the Klezmer Arts Institute of Los Angeles.

Led by Gustavo Bulgach (leader of  the band “Klezmer Juice”), we are musicians of differing abilities and instruments, drawn together to play and learn the history, rhythms, scales and modes of klezmer music.

Come join us for our twice-a-week ZOOM workshops. These are workshops and not jam sessions (Impossible to do by ZOOM).

They occur on Sundays at 11am Pacific Time (2 pm Eastern) and Wednesdays at 6pm Pacific Time (9 pm Eastern Time).

RSVP to  KlezmerLa@gmail.com and we will send you any music you will need and the ZOOM link and password. Please indicate what instrument (s) you play.
